Anika van der Merwe: i'm a typical high school student. i play netball, tennis and do athletics. its my first year of taking art as a subject at school. at first i was afraid, but the teacher and my fellow classmates quikly took me in and i feel very relaxed. it's my favourite subject and i hate it when the bell rings at the end of the period. frida kahlo is my biggest inspiration, not only the way she paints, but what she paints and how she expresses her feelings and things she had delt with in her life. i like detail and the fine things in life- things we take for granted. this inspires me. i like art as a part time thing. i wouldn't want to make it my career or study for it after school, but i hope that one day i would have time to still practise it.
